Local history collections

The local history collections include local interest materials, and works by individuals who live, or have lived in the community. Most items in the local history collection cannot be borrowed, however, they may be used in the library.

Järvenpää local history collection

The Järvenpää collection is located in a separate local history room in the library.

The collection contains

  • books, press clippings, ephemera and maps
  • fiction by authors from Järvenpää
  • music and sheet music by musicians and composers from Järvenpää
  • Keski-Uusimaa newspapers on microfilm

Materials in the collection cannot be borrowed, however, they may be used in the library. Ask for more information at the library.

Kerava local history collection

Kerava's home region collection is located in the Kerava loft, which can be reserved as a meeting room. The collection mainly includes material about the history and present day of Kerava. The collection also includes books written by Kerava residents, other printed materials, sound recordings, videos and other image materials, maps and small prints. Keski-Uusimaa newspaper’s back volumes are available both book-bound and on microfilm but the collection does not cover all the volumes and ends in 2001.

The material of the home region collection is not given as a home loan but it can be examined on the library premises. The staff will fetch the desired material from the Kerava loft.

Mäntsälä local history collection

Mäntsälä local history collection (in Finnish)

Over the years, the Mäntsälä library has collected a wealth of local history material and literature related to the municipality. The materials in the collection cannot be borrowed, however, some of the items have duplicates in the regular collection. In addition, the library holds a valuable book collection by Abraham Ehnroos, founder of the Mäntsälä Library (founded in 1847), with works from the 1700s and 1800s. The oldest items in this collection date back to the 17th century.

The Mäntsälä library has digitized local history material found on digi.kirjastot.fi. The digital collection contains material from both the local history collection and the original collection of the library founder Abraham Ehnroos (1785-1863).

The Tuusula local history collection contains books and other print materials, sound and video recordings, pictures, maps, and ephemera. Both history and present day of the municipality is represented in the collection.
